BIOGRAPHY
Wiyaala is a multi-award winning independent artist from Funsi in the Upper West Region of Ghana and one of the biggest rising stars on the African music scene. An irrepressible extrovert since childhood, Wiyaala is a performer who never fails to excite and inspire. In 2014, Wiyaala became the first Ghanaian artist to record and release music in the Sissala language of Northern Ghana. Wiyaala has received plaudits from WOMAD UK, The Commonwealth Games, The African Union and numerous festivals throughout Europe after impressing BBC broadcaster Rita Ray on the BBC World Service’s “Global Beats” programme in 2014. Her latest achievement; being welcomed into GRAMMYS 2022 New member class. Her music references West African Folk traditions and contemporary Afro-Pop. For her European tour back in 2019, Wiyaala first connected with some of the more prominent musicians in Slovenia and together they formed Wiyaala & the YagaYagas. Since then they’ve performed together at Festivals across Europe, including Womad (UK), Welcome to the Village (Netherlands), Riddu Riddu (Norway) and Afro-Pfingsten (Switzerland), Lent (Slovenia), Alliance Francaise and Club 233 (Ghana).
